Federal & State Government

As the largest payer for care in our nation, state and federal health-related entities have a leading role to play in the advancement of the patient centered medical home (PCMH). Some 44 states and the District of Columbia have passed more than 330 laws relating to the medical home, or have executive level activity that references the PCMH. Federal agencies, including the Veterans Administration, the armed services and others, are actively pursuing demonstration projects and rollouts of the PCMH. The Patient Centered Primary Care Collaborative (PCPCC) has created a center, the Center for Public Payer Implementation (CPPI), to promote the PCMH concept in all facets of the public payer system.
